A number of books and leaflets have been written by members of the Abergavenny Local History Society. These are available as indicated. If out of print try Abergavenny Library or the museum where they may be available for study.

The Story of Abergavenny: From the Stone Age to Our Age: New DVD from Abergavenny Local History Society and produced by PK Pictures. The film is on show on a loop system at Abergavenny Museum. The film is about 55 minutes long and is available for sale at Abergavenny Museum, the Tourist Information Centre, the Abergavenny Bookshop, Abergavenny market. (September 2008) RRP £10. Abergavenny Pubs (Images of Wales S.) by Frank Olding, paperback published by Tempus Publishing Ltd in August 2005; RRP £12.99. Using images held in the archives of Abergavenny Museum, this illustrated volume of the town's pubs traces the development of the licensed trade in this area. Abergavenny Past and Present by I M Morgan, Chairwoman of the society, and published by Suttons in September 2003 (RRP £11.99). Featuring more than 200 photographs, this book is on sale at local book shops, Abergavenny Museum, Abergavenny Tourist Information Centre, The Hill Education and Conference Centre and online book sellers. (ISBN 0-7509-3378-X).

A Town Remembers: Memories of Wartime Abergavenny 1939-1945 by Abergavenny Local History Society and edited by the then chairman, Richard Davies. The booklet has been drawn from the tapes of our oral history project conducted by a team of volunteers. It was launched in November 2002 and was sold out within a couple of months. Another edition was reprinted in June 2003 and the booklet is again on sale from the society at £3.50 to society members and £4 to non-members. It is on sale at £4 from the museum shop, local bookshops, Abergavenny Tourist Information Centre, the Hill Education and Conference Centre and some smaller post offices. Read about the day-to-day lives of townsfolk - and also about the famous Nazi Rudolf Hess who was for a time imprisoned at Maindiff Court Hospital.
